Our Story
Every innovation begins with a broken system. Ours started with a board-certified anesthesiologist—my wife—whose locum tenens assignments across multiple healthcare facilities were taking a serious toll. Navigating agencies, opaque contracts, and unpredictable pay cycles left her with less control, less compensation, and more burnout than she signed up for.
When we dug deeper, the problem was industry-wide. Locum tenens agencies routinely capture 30–40% of a physician’s earned compensation through markups, leaving physicians with diminished pay and facilities with inflated staffing costs—often with no transparency into how those fees were calculated. Recruiters were incentivized to fill seats, not to match physicians to the right assignment.
For facilities—especially rural hospitals and community health centers—the situation was equally frustrating. Hidden fees, slow credentialing timelines, and a lack of visibility into physician availability made every temporary coverage gap more expensive than it needed to be. That’s when we knew there had to be a better way.
Enter Locumize
We built Locumize as the first direct-connection technology platform exclusively for licensed medical doctors (MDs and DOs) and the healthcare facilities that need them for locum tenens coverage. Our platform removes the staffing agency from the equation entirely—enabling physicians and facilities to find each other, negotiate directly, and execute assignments with full transparency.
